Solar in San Diego: How will the Climate Bill Affect Us?

Solar in San Diego: How will the Climate Bill Affect Us?

You may have heard that Congress has passed the largest climate bill in the history of the United States. It’s now heading towards the President’s desk and is likely to be passed. What’s in the bill? It’s mostly a mix of subsidies for energy production that doesn’t emit carbon. Obvious examples of this include solar, wind, and nuclear power. This is because fossil fuel based energies (which pollute more) are often cheaper. The bill introduces subsidies for ‘clean’ energy to give these technologies an edge. Many climate policy experts such as Jesse Jenkins from Princeton University have stated that the bill wil “shift the financial case away from dirty energy toward clean energy”. In fact, these subsidies are designed to lower the prices of solar installations, heat pumps, electric cars, and energy-efficient home improvements.  In fact, for electric vehicles there are tax credits for both new and used car purchases. In fact, at Stellar Solar, we have a dedicated team who installs and connects electric vehicle charging systems in San Diego.  In fact, if you want solar battery backup in San Diego, we can help with that also. We offer a multitude of options such as the Tesla PowerWall, LG Chem, and Enphase batteries. All of these can offset Time-Of-Use charges, while protecting homeowners from neverending blackouts that SDGE forces homeowners to endure.  Impact on Solar With this bill, consumers should qualify for up to $10,000+ in tax breaks and rebates based on the cost of their purchases. Electric car vehicle enthusiasts will rejoice -  those who buy new electric cars, plug-in hybrids and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles will be eligible for up to $7,500. This credit would be available up to 2032. Those who buy used vehicles will still be eligible for up to $4,000.  And what about solar installations? This specific incentive is called the “residential clean energy credit”. Basically, from 2022 to 2032, homeowners would qualify for a 30% tax credit on the value of their solar installations. Subsequently, the credit will fall to 26% in 2033, and 22% by 2034. As an example, imagine that a person purchases a $25,000 solar system with cash or financing, either of which are eligible. This person would have a $7,500 tax credit which means that their solar system would actually cost them $17,500, a significant cost reduction! This residential clean energy credit also applies to battery storage technology! This is huge news for those who want to live their lives on the sun! They can purchase solar, a home battery, and an electric car to live their life powered by sunshine energy! Many of our customers including the Norby family haven’t paid for gasoline or an electric bill in over a decade. They have personally calculated hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings over the years.  Installing solar and charging your car with a battery at home is a shrewd financial move. Not only do you avoid escalating gas prices (an environmentally conscious choice), but you no longer have to rely on SDGE who is forecasted to raise electricity rates each year.  Decreasing Emissions while Bolstering the US Economy You’ll find it fascinating that this bill is forecasted to reduce U.S. carbon emissions by roughly 2/5 by 2030, and also reduces emissions from electricity by around 80%. On top of this, the bill will make “green” energy and electric vehicles considerably cheaper for most Americans.  In theory, this will also make clean energy and EVs more affordable globally, as more competition and innovation in the U.S. might lead to innovation and cheaper, better products that will eventually be available worldwide. Former US Vice President Al Gore noted that “This legislation is a true game-changer. It will create jobs, lower costs, increase U.S. competitiveness, reduce air pollution”. Why Stellar Solar Ultimately, this bill is a sign that San Diego homeowners should assess the viability of going solar, buying an electric car, or purchasing a home battery. We are here to help and inform anyone in southern California who is thinking about obtaining any of the above. Additionally, we offer solar panel maintenance in San Diego. You might be surprised to learn that San Diego is the largest solar market in the United States! By now there are tens of thousands of homes that have solar installed. The problem is, as the years have gone by, many solar companies have gone out of business. This means that many solar customers have been left out in the cold to care for their solar system. Luckily, our ‘stellar’ service team are here to help those who need solar servicing in San Diego.  Remember - we are San Diego's most experienced solar and battery storage installer. We have been around since 1998, and have established an excellent reputation in the area.  In fact, we just won the San Diego Union Tribune Readers Poll in the category of Best Solar Company again in 2022. This is actually our sixth consecutive year winning the award. Our 2022 victory adds to our wins in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.  We have a massive portfolio of commercial solar installations such as the Salk Institute, US Foods, Cedars Sinai Hospital, and many more. Overall, we invite you to check out our reviews on Yelp or Google. Don’t take our word for it - ask our thousands of happy customers! We’re proud to have a 4.9 star rating on Google reviews, which isn’t something that you see every day. It doesn’t matter which industry - we invite you to find another 4.9 rating easily! We also have another person that sings the praises of our brand. Who is that person? None other than NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton who is currently our solar evangelist. Check out his video where he gives 10 reasons why he chose to work with Stellar Solar.  Some might say that this is a direct reflection on the satisfaction of our 15,000 + residential and commercial solar customers. Some call us San Diego’s strongest option for home and business owners who are looking to install solar, battery storage, and electric vehicle connectivity. Electrify your Life with Stellar Solar: Working with Auto Dealers to Encourage Electric Car Adoption

Electrify your Life with Stellar Solar: Working with Auto Dealers to Encourage Electric Car Adoption

At Stellar Solar, we are at the forefront of helping Americans to electrify their lives. Our company has helped thousands of homeowners across the United States to go solar and recently to get home batteries and electric cars.  Now, we have created a series of strategic partnerships across southern California that are designed to incentivize people to get electric cars and electrify their lives on the sunshine. Many of our customers haven’t paid an electric or a gasoline bill in years - saving them thousands of dollars.  We have partnered with Capistrano Volkswagen/Mazda in Orange County, and Herman Cook Volkswagen in San Diego County. Let’s detail both partnerships below: Working with Herman Cook Volkswagen in Encinitas We partnered with Herman Cook Volkswagen to install a new 65-kilowatt solar system that is capable of producing enough power to completely offset their historical one year kilowatt consumption. This is 104% of their historical annual electricity usage!  In addition, we have also developed a partnership that offers Herman Cook Volkswagen electric-vehicle buyers a package of clean-energy solutions. These include solar installation, or battery storage and connectivity. If a customer wants to install solar or a battery in addition to their new electric car - we are offering great incentives that can help. This partnership is the first of its kind between an auto dealer and solar company in San Diego County and is a natural fit towards encouraging Californians to electrify their lives and claim their energy independence.  Herman Cook Volkswagen General Manager and co-owner Connor Cook noted this about our partnership: "First off we are thrilled to be making the move to solar. And to do it with a local company with such an established track record of success and expertise in solar, battery storage and electric vehicle connectivity was just a bonus.  It was their tagline of Electrify Your Life that made forming a strategic partnership and offering their full suite of services to our customers a no-brainer. I'm excited to be on the forefront of this and contributing to the clean energy movement."  Working with Capistrano Volkswagen/Mazda We have installed two solar systems on Capistrano Volkswagen and Mazda - installing a combined 134kW solar system on the two dealerships.  The Mazda facility installation will produce enough power to offset 100% of the kilowatt hour consumption. On the flip side, the Volkswagen facility will produce enough power to offset 68% of the kilowatt hour consumption. Our strategic partnership will offer Capistrano VW/Mazda customers who purchase electric vehicles a suite of clean energy solutions. We make it easy for customers to go solar, obtain battery storage, and EV connectivity to power their cars with energy from the sun. Stellar Solar Customers Who Have Electrified their Lives Let us give you an example of a Stellar Solar customer who has solar panels, electric cars, and home batteries to charge those cars with the sun.  Our customers are saving money short-term with incentives, and also saving money long-term via energy savings. In actuality, there are strong incentives for Californians who want to get a solar system, home battery, or electric vehicle. Folks who purchase one of the above will save money over time. Folks who purchase all three achieve the ‘solar trifecta’, which has the potential to save you serious money.  On top of this, many of our customers are achieving “Zero Net Energy”. This is a concept that Stellar Solar customer Peder Norby puts into practice. How? He powers his entire life using sunshine energy. First, Peder had Stellar Solar install his solar system. Next, he obtained electric vehicles and home batteries.  Since then, he has eliminated all his power and gas bills. This has saved his family thousands of dollars over the years.  In fact, the Norby family recouped the cost of their $29,750 solar installation in under 5 years. At one point, Peder has estimated that his family saves over $750 each month in gasoline and electricity bills. On top of this, he has calculated that they have saved roughly $250,000 since 2012 when their solar system was installed. Over the lifetime of their solar system and EV vehicles, this amount will increase to $1 million dollars plus in savings. If the concept of ‘Zero Net Energy’ intrigues you - it’s actually a lot more accessible than most people think. Let’s recap the incentives available: California Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP): Want an easy rebate? This one promotes clean vehicle adoption for California residents with rebates up to $4,500. California Clean Fuel Reward: This is a great rebate for California residents who buy (or lease) new Battery Electric (BEV) or Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) cars that are worth up to $1,500. 26% Federal Solar Tax Credit: This is a strong tax credit which is worth 26% of the cost of your solar installation. It’s available through the end of 2022.  Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP): These are financial incentives to homeowners who install renewable energy generation and storage systems.  If you have an electric vehicle, Stellar Solar installs electric car chargers and solar panels to compliment your exciting new purchase. It’s important to work with us because we have the track-record and longevity that you can count on.  Put it this way, in our 24 years in business, most of our competitors have gone out of business. In fact, our service department is booming with business serving the installations of former rivals.  We were just voted Best Solar Company in San Diego (yet again) by the Readers of the San Diego Union Tribune. Plus, we have over 400+ 5-star reviews on Yelp! We encourage you to read the reviews instead of taking our word for it.  Want to learn more? Chat with one of our Energy Consultants. They can guide you through every step so seamlessly you’d think they are solar encyclopedias. It’s an amazing time to go solar, get an electric car, purchase a battery, and achieve the Solar Trifecta!  Electrify your life today!
